by William ShakespeareBumbling LoveSummer Season: June 18 - August 29 "O powerful love, that in some respects makes a beast a man, in some other a man a beast!" V.v Urban legend has it that Queen Elizabeth asked William Shakespeare to write a play with “the fat knight in love” and he turned out the effervescent The Merry Wives of Windsor, in which Falstaff – if he isn’t in love – is certainly in lust. The objects of Falstaff’s lust are two clever women, who team up to outmaneuver and outsmart one of Shakespeare’s wittiest characters. The playwright blends romance, farce, and festival in his liveliest and most affectionate portrait of domestic life in Elizabeth’s England. Audiences now, as then, cannot resist this comic confection. Ticket sales have closed for this production. Please see What's Playing currently at the American Shakespeare Center. |
