VA Governor Kaine Honors ASC in Two Events
Earlier this fall, Virginia Governor Tim Kaine presented the Virginia Governor's Award for the Arts to the ASC's co-founders, Ralph Alan Cohen and Jim Warren, in a ceremony in Richmond. Cohen and Warren were among only ten individuals or groups to win the award, out of more than 300 nominees from around the Commonwealth.
During November, the ASC was honored to participate in two additional events with Governor Kaine.

Cabinet Community DayOn his Cabinet and members of his Senior Staff conducted their eleventh Cabinet Community Day on Thursday, November 13, 2008 in the Staunton area. A featured stop on their visit was the Blackfriars Playhouse. After taking a private back-stage tour, the Governor and his group were seated for a brief performance including scenes and music from the American Shakespeare Center's current Summer/Fall season. From his perch in the Lords' Balcony, Governor Kaine had a bird's-eye view of ASC Resident Troupe actors drawing Cabinet secretaries and senior staffers into the dramatic action on stage. Launch of 2009 "Virginia is for Lovers" CampaignGovernor Kaine joined Governor Linwood Holton and the Virginia Tourism Corporation at the kick-off event at the Capitol Building in Richmond for the 40th Anniversary of Virginia is for Lovers, the state's official tourism slogan. Governor Kaine delivered remarks and helped debut the newest phase of Virginia's tourism marketing. Virginia tourism officials invited ASC actor Rene Thornton, Jr., who will be featured in the 2009 Virginia Travel Guide, to attend the event to represent the passionate people whom visitors can meet when they come to Virginia.
