Help the Shakespeare enthusiast in your life celebrate summer with a tuition assistance gift. We have two summer camps, covering ages 13-18 and 18 and up. Your gift will help a camper experience the joy of Shakespeare through workshops, games, and active exploration of the text.
Session 1: June 16 - July 7, 2013; Session 2: July 14 - August 4, 2013
"I am here because I absolutely love to learn, I absolutely love Shakespeare, and I absolutely love people pursuing their passion." - 2011 Camper
In each of these three-week sessions, students ages 13-18 come together to explore early modern staging techniques; to attend Master classes in subjects such as verse, rhetoric, history, vocal technique, movement, dance, stage combat, clowing, and music; and to put together hour-long productions of early modern plays on the stage of the Blackfriars Playhouse. Campers also attend the plays of the ASC Summer Season, attend workshops led by ASC actors and renowned scholars, and take field trips to enjoy the natural splendour of the Shenandoah Valley. This summer, Session 1 will produce Pericles, As You Like It, and John Fletcher's The Wild Goose Chase. Session 2 will produce Richard II, The Taming of the Shrew, and Ben Jonson'sVolpone.

June 25 - 29, 2012
"This is a place that could reinvigorate the way the USA views Shakespeare. In this day and age of the arts falling by the wayside, the ASC tells us how to do it and do it RIGHT." -- 2011 Camper

Our adults-only camp offers the ASC summer programming experience to college students, teachers, and patrons of any age and experience level. Our theme this year is Movement -- both the physical movement of an actor on stage, as well as the movement Shakespeare's company faced when transitioning from one playhouse to another, or when taking their shows out on the road. The programming for the week includes: classes in stage combat, clowning, dance, verse, rhetoric, and history; attendance at ASC Summer Season shows; a barbeque and cast party with ASC actors; and a field trip to an exciting destination in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley. If an adult in your life can't get enough Shakespeare, send that loved one to us next summer for a week of total immersion in the world of the early modern theatre.
