On Tour

What is the ASC On Tour?

Direct from the stage of the Blackfriars Playhouse in Staunton, Virginia, the ASC On Tour delivers seriously fun Shakespeare to audiences at festivals, colleges, high schools, and performing arts centers throughout the U.S.  The ASC On Tour invites audiences to enjoy shows that are produced as Shakespeare’s troupe performed them—on a bare stage and surrounded by audience members who share the same light with the actors, each of whom play multiple roles.  This highly interactive style allows the ASC On Tour to forge a sense of community between performers and audience rarely found in theatre today, and enables our audience to understand and enjoy these classic works.  In addition to performances, ASC On Tour offers a variety of hands-on workshops to create a complete theatrical and educational experience.  Founded in 1988, the ASC On Tour boasts more than 25 years’ worth of global touring experience on stages in 47 states, five foreign nations, and one U.S. Territory.

“We scour the country for the right 10-12 actors to perform dozens of roles in these plays,” said ASC Artistic Director Jim Warren.  “Not only are we looking for the right talent to do three shows in true rotating repertory (a great lost joy in today's theatre world), but we're also looking for personalities we think will gel into a dynamic, well-balanced ensemble on and off the stage.  On top of all of that, we're also looking for singers and musicians because we perform all of our music live and unplugged; join us for our pre-show a half hour before show time for some great live music.”

Let the American Shakespeare Center On Tour re-create the magic of the Blackfriars Playhouse in your venue.  Whether you are looking for a single show or portable festival, the ASC On Tour promises “shamelessly entertaining” performances at great value.
