Graphic Designer

The American Shakespeare Center in Staunton, Virginia is seeking a highly motivated, versatile graphic design professional with an exceptional eye for typographic design. This is a key position in our organization, requiring a broad range of personal, creative, and professional experience in order to produce high-end, highly creative materials that best represent the ASC brand. This position works in collaboration with cross-functional departments to create a wide range of print and web-based materials, from concept through final production. 

• Significant (5-7 years) experience in a corporate, agency or freelance setting
• Comprehensive portfolio displaying candidate's design, production and strategic thinking
• Expertise in corporate brand identity systems and brand expression
• Demonstrated ability to design and produce multi-page print documents (50+ pages)
• Able to articulate creative strategies and communicate ideas effectively to individuals across all levels of the organization
• Highly successful at managing a variety of projects and priorities on compressed schedules
• A sense of urgency and the ability to see projects through to completion
• Ability to take constructive feedback
• Mastery of Adobe Creative Suite programs:
• InDesign
• Fully fluent in Photoshop techniques
• Expert level of proficiency in retouching images 
• Working knowledge of Flash, HTML and web advertising
• Extensive knowledge of pre-press and printing technology
• Digital and freehand illustration skills a plus
• Basic video editing knowledge a plus
• A winning personality: engaging, eager, motivated, collaborative,  and most importantly, detail-oriented

• Collaborate with other departments to conceptualize and execute designs to support a wide variety of products: brochures, programs, posters, signage, logos, trade show graphics, mailers, ads, email marketing
• Work with cross-functional teams to plan, analyze and recommend creative techniques and executions, using color, images, typography, photography, illustrations, and various layout techniques
• Maintain high productivity and accuracy while completing assignments in a timely manner
• Implement branding and rebranding strategies
• Solicit bids from print vendors and manage print production
• Manipulate and reformat photographic images for use in different environments (print, online); retouch images as necessary
• Establish and manage relationships with printers and other external production vendors
• Prepare and transmit the production files to external vendors and attend press checks as needed 
• Maintain organized archived project folders and image files
• Continue to upgrade skills and knowledge relative to design concepts, practices and tools, and stay abreast of new techniques, trends and technologies
