Residence & Directing Assistants

ASC Theatre Camp Residential & Directing Assistants (RDAs) are more than just camp counselors. RDAs engage with campers in multiple ways during one of our two 3-week summer camp sessions by serving as both residential assistants and assistant directors.

All RDAs receive a private room with an ensuite bathroom, plus all meals. RDAs receive one half-day off per session and must stay through that session’s final strike.

QUALIFICATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

  • Must be at least 21 years of age and have completed at least one year of college
  • Standard First Aid and CPR Certification (preferred)
  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record (preferred)
  • Experience performing, directing, or teaching Shakespeare
  • Rich, diverse background in theatre arts (preferred)
  • Exhibits dependability, punctuality, patience, teamwork, self-control, and enthusiasm
  • Possesses good leadership skills and responsibility
  • Demonstrates appropriate behavior at all times

RESPONSIBILITIES

SERVE AS A RESIDENT ASSISTANT FOR ALL CAMPERS
  • Assist with travel coordination for arriving and departing campers
  • Manage morning wake-up and evening lights-out in rotation with other RDAs
  • Work with on-site nurse and other RDAs to administer camper prescription medications per the delivery schedule
  • Supervise and escort campers during activities
  • Instruct and interact with campers during activities
  • Coordinate off-campus shopping trips
  • Work amicably and cooperatively with all staff members
  • Contribute content and posts to the camp blog regularly (three times per week minimum)
  • Observe and promote all rules and regulations of ASC Theatre Camp
  • Attend daily and weekly staff meetings with Camp Director and Camp Life Coordinator
SERVE AS AN ASSISTANT DIRECTOR FOR CAMP PRODUCTIONS
  • Support and assist Show Director with daily rehearsals
  • Lead workshops and master classes as qualified, and/or support and assist leaders with workshops and master classes
  • Work closely with campers on text analysis and line memorization
  • Mediate any issues of artistic concern between cast members and the director
  • Lead morning movement-based warm-ups several times a week in coordination with other camp staff
EMPLOYMENT DATES

Session 1: June 15 – July 8, 2018 (Session starts June 17)
Session 2: July 13 – August 5, 2018 (Session starts July 15)
Extended Experience Week (XXW): July 9 – July 14, 2018 (not required)

COMPENSATION

$1,500 per session

Potential bonus negotiable depending on XXW attendance. For planning purposes, please be aware that RDAs working both sessions are welcome to remain in housing during the XXW if desired, but are not required to do so and will not be “on duty” for that week unless otherwise specified.
