Shakespeare's American Home

The American Shakespeare Center is an internationally recognized home for the study of Shakespeare's works using their original staging conditions -- with a focus on the language, using a stage unimpeded by sets, and with the audience sharing the same light as the actors. As an essential part of our mission to be a place to enjoy and to study Shakespeare in performance, the American Shakespeare Center is pleased to open its rehearsals to scholars, students, and researchers who wish to deepen their understanding of the process of staging a play. We invite those who would like to see a rehearsal to contact the Education department to schedule their visits.

To find out more about the history of this global resource in the Shenandoah Valley, watch WVPT's 30-minute documentary on Virginia's American Shakespeare Center.

This documentary tells the story of how a small Shenandoah Valley touring troupe grew to be one of the most respected and unique theater companies in the world. Celebrating ASC's 25th anniversary, the documentary features interviews with ASC Director of Mission Ralph Cohen and ASC Artistic Director Jim Warren, as well as other staff and multiple actors from ASC's 2013 Actors' Renaissance Season Troupe. Produced and Directed by George Lilly.
