"This was Shakespeare unlike anything I had experienced: fingertip close, intimate, and commanding my undivided attention," writes Laurie Prince in the November issue of Charlotte, the lifestyle magazine for the fast-growing city in North Carolina.
The article, "Shakespeare in the Shenandoah: Travelers will find much ado in Staunton, Virginia," presents Staunton as an attractive vacation destination because it is the home of some of the most entertaining Shakespeare performances in the country presented in a one-of-a-kind theatre space.
After gushing about the performance of Antony and Cleopatra she saw at the Blackfriars Playhouse -- a "wooden theatre...made of overhanging balustrades, iron chandeliers, and half-timbered walls" -- Prince writes that, like so many who discover Staunton for themselves, she had come upon the town by chance, on the way from one place to another.
"My fate had been penned by the Bard: 'Fortune brings in some boats that are not steer'd,' Pisanio observed in Cymbeline. I had come here quite by accident, but next time, it will be by intent."
