Study Guides

ASC offers study packets that include historical information about Shakespeare and the specific play being studied, as well as thematic activities, quizzes, and games to supplement the classroom curriculum.  Click "Study Guides" above for direct access to all of our currently available guides.

School Matinees

Specially scheduled morning performances provide teachers and students the opportunity to experience the thrill of the Renaissance stage.  All school matinees include a post-show discussion with actors from the show at no additional charge.  For further information about bringing your students to see a show at the Blackfriars, please contact ASC's Group Sales Manager at 540-88-5588, ext. 12.

Workshops

ASC creates a variety of workshops for all age groups.  In addition to our pre-made workshops, such as our popular "Shakespeare On Your Feet" workshop, we will tailor-make workshops to fit the specific needs of your school, corporate environment, or community group.  The link above will send you to some examples of the kinds of workshops ASC creates.

ARS 2009 Group Packages

These tailor-made packages are designed specifically for college groups visiting Staunton during the 2009 Actor's Renaissance Season.

 Teacher Programs

Each semester the ASC devotes a seminar to teaching a play from our repertoire.  Professor Ralph Alan Cohen, the education staff, and actors provide teachers with a host of materials and techniques for bringing Shakespeare home to their students.

Age Appropriateness

Area teachers and ASC education artists examine the text and performance of each play in the current season with a mind towards age appropriateness.  These remarks can be found by clicking above shortly after the current season begins.  If you have any further questions about age appropriateness of our shows, please contact our Education Department at (540) 885-5588, ext. 29.

Podcasts

ASC creates free play-specific podcasts for each of our productions.  Each podcast is an engaging discussion with Founding Executive Director, Dr, Ralph Alan Cohen and members of the cast.  The discussions average around 40 minutes and are an excellent resource for a behind-the-scenes look at what happens to create each production that appears on the ASC stage.  Click on the link above for direct access to ASC's Podcast/Blog Website.
