Education

"The most convenient place that I can think of for such receipt of learning is Blackfriars."

- King Henry, from Henry VIII

Our offerings of workshops, performances, actor training, and summer programs are specially tailored for you to experience Shakespeare as you never have before. From readings, lectures, Student Matinees and our Talk Back! Series, to our international Blackfriars Conference, the ASC has an enriching program just right for you.

RESEARCH AND SCHOLARSHIP

The bi-annual Blackfriars Conference, our relationship with the MLitt/MFA Program at Mary Baldwin College, our 5-week NEH Summer Institute, our Bring 'Em Back Alive play reading series, additional collegiate partnerships, opportunities for advanced study, and online and on-site archival resources, are all a part of ASC's foundation of combining theatre and scholarship.

PROFESSIONAL TRAINING

The ASC's professional training programs include Actor Training, Theatrical Internships in all areas, Corporate Leadership Training programs, In-Service Training for teachers and administrators, and Professional Development with visiting Guest Artists.

TEACHER RESOURCES

ASC offers a variety of resources for educators including student matinees, study guides, student workshops and actor-led tours, teacher seminars, podcasts, and a guide for helping to determine the age appropriateness of each of our shows.

YOUTH PROGRAMS

Each summer we host our 3-week intensive Young Company Theatre Camps for ages 13-18 and our 1-week Midsummer Day Camp for ages 9-12.  Other classes, play readings, and special events happen throughout the year.
